Making a difference
Our goal is to help a young person realize they have value and purpose.
My name is Scott Norris. I am a husband to my wife Courtney and father to our three adult children. At age 40, I decided that I needed a career change. I started back to school to earn my degree in elementary education. I left my corporate job and began working with students with Autism for a non-profit. I then moved to working with emotionally disturbed students in a behavior unit for a local elementary school as an education assistant. Since I knew that I would not be able to complete much of my coursework while working in the classroom, I became a custodian for the same school district. I was the Head Custodian at an elementary school for five years while I finished my degree. I am currently employed at the same elementary school as a second grade teacher and I love my job. This is my fourth year teaching second graders and I couldn’t imagine not working with students. I also coach high school varsity boys soccer.
You could say that I have a passion for giving back.
Putting it all together
I have been an avid auto enthusiast for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have owned several Mustangs and Jeep Wranglers. I have always had a strong interest in modifying, painting, and customizing my vehicles. I have enjoyed being a part of auto communities that support and provide insights into designs and builds.
Through Impact 4x4, I combine my knowledge and love for auto customization and provide mentorship for students in fourth grade through young adults who normally would not have the opportunity to develop auto customization, graphic arts, and other professional skills. This program is created as an after-school opportunity to develop a variety of skills.
Our goal is to provide opportunities to learn skills and a trade while developing qualities such as respect for others, perseverance, strong work ethic, and teamwork. We want our students to not only learn a trade but also give back to their communities through mentorship.
Periodically, we attend auto shows to provide an opportunity for students to display their work and communicate with spectators about the project. We also take team building off-road camping trips. Both of these provide an opportunity for students to develop important communication skills and build confidence.
